The engine warning light means the ECU has detected a fault in the engine or emissions system. If it is steady you can drive carefully to a diagnosis; if it is flashing stop as soon as possible, as it indicates a serious problem (possible catalytic converter damage).

  • Clogged DPF or incomplete regeneration
  • Dirty or stuck EGR valve
  • AdBlue/SCR system error (recent diesels)
  • Faulty lambda sensor or pressure sensor
  • Intake leaks or spark plugs/injectors

What to do now

  1. Check if the light is steady (caution) or flashing (stop).
  2. Check levels (oil, AdBlue) and the fuel cap.
  3. Avoid hard acceleration and high revs.
  4. Read the fault codes with a diagnosis: the only way to know the exact cause.
